More shifty business… this time for Tech Support in Preston April 15, 2009Posted by tomcwu in Pay, Preston, Shifts, TalkTalk.
Following our report last week of the proposed shift changes for Carphone Networks workers in Irlam, it seems that similar shenanigans are going on for TalkTalk Tech Support workers at Tulketh Mill in Preston. Local branch officer Glenn Slater has produced a briefing for workers in the team.

While the consultation at Irlam has not lived up to the standards we believe the company can aspire to, in Preston there have been no signs of a consultation at all. This is despite the fact that workers will be required to work up until 10.30pm! Until now, no one in the team has worked later than 8.30pm. Clearly, this will have a potentially significant impact on the life pattern of those affected. The union is urging the company to enter into a proper consultaiton with its staff.
Local CWU organiser Tom Dale also commented, “In many respects, Carphone is a good employer, but they need to listen more to workers. As a union, we’re here to help workers get together and develop a voice that will be heard.”
The union is also investigating whether some of the workers may be owed up to £580 by the company in back pay, since half of them appear to have been underpaid relative to colleagues for several months.
