it-skills-picWhat’s the one new skill you’ve alway wanted to learn?

Union learning is the scheme to help union members and other workers gain new skills.  It could be that you want to improve your English and Maths to help the kids with the homework, or gain a recognised qualification in IT or Business to spruce up your CV.  You could even learn a language.

The Communication Workers Union’s Union Learning scheme can connect you with the courses that are right for you, often free or at a discount.  CWU Learning reps and Regional Project Workers can arrange for a short meeting to assess your individual learning needs.  Union learning is an example of the surprising roles that unions can sometimes play, making things better both for members and employers.

Good employers will often work with the union on union learning projects to help their workforce gain new skills, for the benefit of both employees and business.  Unfortuately, so far Carphone Warehouse has been unwilling to even give workers time off to attend an Information, Advice and Guidance session for those facing redundancy!  We hope they will improve.

Undaunted, Preston based CWU Learning Coordinator Paul Newsham will be holding union learning drop in sessions for workers who want to find out more at the new union office, just opposite the Tulketh Mill site.  He will be available in the office tomorrow (Thursday 9 April) between 16.30 and 19.00, and Thursday 16 April between 11.00, and 14.00.  Drop in to find out more, or email Paul on newshy39@hotmail.com.
